We are a small-scale flower farm that grows specialty cut flowers for retail, weddings & events, and markets. This is an on-site position at the farm located in East Garafraxa.

OVERVIEW:

September- December (flexible start & end date). *Please note, this position is currently seasonal. We will be re-opening this position in February 2025, therefore contract renewal may be available for the 2025 season.

Wed-Sat, 18-22 hrs/week. Occasional evening work may be required, but hours will aim to be 8am - 4pm, with later hours typical on Fridays, and earlier mornings typical on Saturdays of market & event weekends.

$20-$22/ hour, based on experience

Own transportation required, full G license. Majority of work will occur at the farm, but travel to events (As far as Toronto) required.

Extended periods of standing, bending, walking is required. Lifting up to 40 lbs required.

DETAILS:

The scope of work includes both farming, retail flowers, and event floristry. Work takes place in the greenhouses, the field, the studio, floral deliveries, and on- site at weddings, events, & markets. This may sound glamorous, and while it is beautiful, please note that much of the work is outdoors on a farm or in outbuildings; the manual labour for this position is demanding and rustic in nature.

The right fit for the position enjoys a mix of both independent and teamwork, is self-directed, and is enthusiastic about preforming manual labour outdoors daily.

Daily tasks will shift throughout the season, but will include seeding, transplanting, light weeding, harvesting, cleaning buckets and tools, as well as design work (including wreath making, flower pressing, flower drying, eco-dying, etc.) later in the week and in the lead up to markets, events & weddings. Consistent tasks throughout the season will include harvesting, processing, and the cleaning of buckets and tools. There are also opportunities to be part of larger flower farm projects for the season and pursue and set your own goals.

FLORAL WORK:

Processing flowers, making market bouquets and arrangements, subscription bouquets, floral arrangements, and deliveries.

We use sustainable and foam-free techniques for event floral work in a garden-gathered style of arranging. Previous experience through training in, education, and/or work in floristry preferred, especially experience with corporate events & wedding floral work.

Assets to the position of farmer florist are a love of nature, knowledge of plants, and a background in art.
